ProteusCore | Radar Processing Software
Situational Awareness And Vessel Control
Sensing in the marine environment is a challenge. Marine Radar has been an effective solution for collision avoidance for a century. It’s affordable and powerful, but it is not easy to fuse with other data sources or integrate into your tech stack. ProteusCore™ unlocks the capability of the off-the-shelf marine Radar by interpreting Radar images with Machine Learning.
Just like Machine Learning is used to detect and classify objects in a camera image, ProteusCore uses Machine Learning to detect and classify objects in a Radar image.
ProteusCore is machine vision for Radar.
The ProteusCore configuration app allows for viewing of the ProteusCore ML pipeline, and configuration of Radar and NMEA 2000 settings
AutoFocus (Auto-Gain & Range)
Unlike legacy systems that require constant manual Radar gain tuning and range setting, ProteusCore offers a patent pending Autofocus feature that optimizes object detection based on environmental conditions, sea state, and proximity to land. This comprehensive object detection capability powered by machine learning delivers crucial real-time data to vessel operators or autonomous vessel control systems.

Radar Based Classifications
After detecting targets with the Radar, ProteusCore applies Tocaro Blue’s proprietary Machine Learning models to decipher the contents of the Radar images. Using sophisticated data filtering and machine learning, ProteusCore is able to analyze Radar images and determine the class of detected objects. This unique capability offers more context and information than ever before from Radar. Now your Radar knows whether a detection is a small or large vessel, a marker or buoy, and even land or wake.

Advanced Tracking
ProteusCore tracks an unlimited number of objects, automatically. No manual acquisition or tracking input is required to receive highly precise Radar tracks, perfect for fusion with Electro Optical or Infrared Sensors, or for control logic! For each tracker object, ProteusCore maintains position, closest point of approach, velocity, and predicted trajectory.
Radar Based Advanced Driver Assistance Systems
With a 360-degree field of view, Radar is a compelling sensor for advanced driver assistance systems development. With the output of ProteusCore, developers can ingest Radar–classified tracks for collision detection and avoidance. Smart Autopilot systems can leverage ProteusCore to make throttle and steering adjustments to avoid tracked targets in the vessel’s path.

Radar can be used as a perception sensor to inform autopilot systems about potential collisions. ProteusCore functionality can be used to provide alarms and alerts to the captain
